The Local Area

Netley CastleSunnydale Camping and Caravan site's central location is surrounded by a great selection of things to do and visit. The park is also an ideal base for those attending the Southampton Boat Show, Cowes Week or as a stopover to those traveling to the Isle of Wight or France by Ferry from Southampton or Portsmouth. It also the closest camping to the new IKEA superstore in Southampton. For those camping on foot or cycle we are only a short distance from the Solent Way coastal route.

 

NETLEY ABBEY – Situated right on Southampton water this pretty village has a good selection of shops as well as a few nice pubs and restaurants along with a Fish & Chip shop and Chinese and Indian Take-away's all less than a mile from the site. We are 5 mins from Royal Victoria Country Park with its once-famous Victorian Army Hospital (Exibition in Chaple), tea room, adventure playground and miniature steam railway (open every week-end and daily during school holidays). Visit the historic Abbey ruins - open daily, entrance free.

Boats in HambleHAMBLE VILLAGE – Situated on the Yachting mecca  of the River Hamble has a good selection of historic pubs, tea rooms and an great choice of restaurants. Why not take a boat trip from the waterfront and see the many fantastic yachts moored on the river or take the pink ferry across to Warsash.

SOUTHAMPTON – Europes busiest Cruise Liner port and Gateway to the World. Historic attractions include the City Walls and Old Town. For museums there is the Maritime Museum with its Titanic Exhibition. Learn about the history of the Spitfire at Solent Sky Hall of Aviation. West Quay complex is the South of England's premier shopping centre. For waterfront bars and restaurants go to Ocean Village or visit the many quality restaurants in Oxford Street. Further entertainment includes the multiplex cinema, bowling, games room, casino and entertainment complex at Leisure World or take in a show at The Mayflower or Nuffield Theatres.

Other Attractions include Beaulieu Motor Museum, Exbury Gardens, Winchester, Marwell Zoo, The Watercress Line Steam Railway ( with Thomas The Tank Engine) and Paultons Park with over 50 rides and attractions..

Spinnaker Tower in PortsmouthTHE NEW FOREST – Visit England’s newest national park where you will see many beautiful villages and towns including Lymington, Lyndhurst, Beaulieu and Bucklers Hard. As you travel around you will catch sight of the famous New Forest Ponies. Another dimension could be to take the Hythe Ferry from Town Quay in Southampton and explore the many cycle routes that criss-cross the forest.

HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH – So many things to see or do. Take your pick – visit the Historic ships; The Warrior, The Mary Rose and The Victory. Go shopping at Gun Wharf Quay Outlet Village. Climb the amazing Spinnaker Tower and see incredible views across Hampshire and The Isle Of Wight.

Activities

Sailing, Horse-Riding, Fishing, Golf, Pitch and Putt are all available nearby. Also the Southampton FC's St Mary's Stadium and Hampshire Cricket's "Rose Bowl" are all close by and well worth a visit. (Park and Ride facilities are just 5 minutes away from us)
